Christmas In New York City

Do you find that some years you feel so much more festive than others? Last year was our first holiday season living in New York City, and while it was lovely, the build up to and actual Christmas in New York City were oddly, well, un-festive. I think it’s because we had not long moved into our first apartment (with all of our belongings still on a ship coming across the Atlantic!), so things were kinda off kilter. Then, there was the weather. I might have recently gained my green card (wahooo!) but you can’t take the Britishness out of this Brit – I still love to talk about the weather! You see, I actually love it when it’s cold in December. After all, if there’s one month in the year when it feels nice to get all wrapped up and be cozy, it’s December – right?! Last year, it was so mild during Christmas in New York City that I was literally doing last-minute Christmas shopping in shorts and a t-shirt. If I wanted that kinda craziness I would have flown to Sydney for the holidays. Ummm, no thanks! This year, however, it’s allll different. We are feeling so […]

Festive Fiesta! How to Style a Holiday Bar Cart

Christmas is almost here so I’ve teamed up with Chambord to style a DIY festive bar cart that’s perfect for celebrating the Holidays in sparkly festive style! I headed out into New York City to pull together bar cart items inspired by Chambord’s stylish bottle, and named the overall look ‘Festive Fiesta’ to encourage celebration of the everyday, no matter the reason. Click through to see how to recreate this stylish and gently quirky DIY festive bar cart! The inspiration for my Festive Fiesta look came from the Chambord bottle itself: the peppering of holiday red colours are a nod to the rich red hue of the raspberry liqueur, while the metallic finishes reference Chambord’s golden band and bottle top. I made sure to include a posy of fresh festive blooms as part of the DIY bar cart makeover. Not only does a grouping of red winter berries, baby’s breath and eucalyptus fill the room with holiday scent and colour, but it softens the harder lines of the bar cart, too. If you don’t have space for a full vase try filling a spare glass tumbler with the stems – I did this with a polka dot design to give […]

DIY Advent Calendar with House of Fraser

This festive season I am delighted to partner with House of Fraser to share my tips for fun, colourful and stylish DIY Christmas decorating ideas across their digital, in-store and catalog. I’m actually not what I would consider a ‘crafter’ but there’s something about Christmas that brings out the DIY side of me. In fact, Christmas has had this affect on me since I was a young child when I would be allowed to decorate our family home with my crafts. I would gather pine cones and berries from the woods by our house, spraying them silver and gold before stringing them from ribbons twisted with fresh foliage. Click through after the jump to see a super simple and stylish idea for making your own advent calendar. Here I am in full swing on set of the video! We filmed this advent calendar DIY towards the end of the summer in a super cool London studio. My aim was to create a DIY that would be fun to do one weekend with all the family: this one is great to get the kids involved. The best part? It will still look stylish! It’s also a fun way to use up […]
