The architect is perhaps best known for one house in particular. It isn’t this A. James Speyer-designed modernist property in Highland Park, Illinois, USA.

That more famous house is, of course, the Ferris Bueller house, a property made famous by the cult John Hughes movie if the mid-1980s. This one isn’t a million miles away in terms of location and design.

The Bueller house dates from 1953, but this one predates it, constructed back in 1952 and rather forward thinking for its era. We spotted it back in 2015 when it perhaps wasn’t looking its best. But since then, it has undergone some modernisation.

The agent says it has been ‘returned to its original grandeur’ mixing midcentury period charm with modern-era essentials. So the glazing (for that ‘outside in’ feeling), the wood panel walls and exposed brick still very much to the fore, but with an updated kitchen and bathroom spaces, plus other modern amenities adding to its appeal.
